The beginning

This project started when a local car rental business that was struggling with its online booking experience contacted me.

Their website was functional — customers could technically book a ride — but the business was still facing trust issues and operational friction.

When I spoke with the owner and a few users, a clear pattern emerged.

People were hesitant to book through the website, and even when they did, the experience often broke down afterward.

That made me want to understand:

Why was a working system still failing users and the business?

Understanding the problem

I approached this from both sides:

Customers who were booking rides

The business owner managing operations

What I realized was that the issue wasn’t just about UI — it was about trust, clarity, and system reliability.

Key Observations

After conversations and analysis, I identified four major problem areas.

Lack of Visibility

Users felt uncomfortable booking through the website because:

  • the visual design didn’t feel reliable

  • important information was unclear or missing

  • the experience didn’t reflect a professional service

This directly impacted conversion.

Follow-up Overload

Once a booking was made:

  • users couldn’t reschedule

  • users couldn’t modify details

  • there was no visibility into their booking

This created frustration and anxiety.

Fragmented Information

In some cases:

  • bookings were made by users

  • but not received by the business

This was a critical breakdown.

Breaking the Problem Down

To avoid designing a surface-level solution, I reframed the problem into core needs:

Outcome

For users:

  • Improved trust in the platform

  • Ability to manage bookings

  • Clearer and more predictable experience

For the business:

  • Centralized booking management

  • Reduced manual effort

  • Better handling of user data

  • Improved operational efficiency
